American Adventure

American Adventure was one of three parks operated by the Granada Group alongside Camelot and Granada Studios. Located in Ilkeston, Derbyshire on the site of the former Britannia Park attraction, it was part of the ‘Midlands Mania’ of theme parks in the 1980s.

The park was home to some large attractions including Missile – a Vekoma Boomerang, the Nightmare Niagra Log Flume, the Rocky Mountain Rapids, the Runaway Train roller coaster and Iron Wolf, a double looping roller coaster.

The park provided visitors with an opportunity to visit areas themed around a space port, the old west and a native American village. In the latter part of its existence, the park suffered from increased competition and dwindling visitor numbers, which in turn led to the closure of the park after the 2006 season.
