Thorpe Park

Opened in 1979, the park was largely a family attraction until it was bought by The Tussauds Group in 1998. Scenes from the park were beamed across the world in the mid-1990s when the park was visited by Princess Diana and her two young sons.

Tussauds planned to transform the park into a thrill seekers paradise and quickly changed the skyline with the introduction of towering extreme rides including Colossus, Nemesis Inferno, Rush, Detonator, Tidal Wave and Stealth.

In more recent years, the parks roller coaster collection has been expanded further with the debut of both The Swarm and SAW – The Ride.

Colossus at Thorpe Park broke the world record for the number of inversions when it opened in 2002 with ten (the previous record was eight).
