Funfairs and amusement parks have often been the victim of fires, particularly when guests (and staff!) smoking was more prevalent than it is now. Also, many rides were made almost exclusively of wood and fire regulations were not what they are today.
In 1934, the Autoskooter at Blackpool Pleasure Beach was destroyed by fire, in this instance the fire was caused by a lightning strike. This clip from British Movietone shows the sad aftermath.
