During its 20 years of operation (1987 – 2007), American Adventure would welcome millions of guests to its lakeside setting. However, for ten short weeks in 1985, the park was home to Britannia Park, the self-proclaimed ‘showcase of Britain’.
The venture was a disaster, with debts of £10m, huge numbers of unsatisfied visitors, it led to one of the longest legal battles in British history.
When Britannia Park shut its doors, the land was eventually sold to Granada who opened American Adventure in 1987.
