Just months after Morecambe Pleasure Park’s transformation into Frontierland, the park’s famous Fun City fun house burned on 14 November 1987. Fanned by high winds, police said the fire was believed to have started in a beer cellar in the building.
A former aircraft hangar, Leonard Thompson had purchased the structure in 1948 and transformed it into an arena for ice shows which ran until 1962, later it was converted into a bingo hall before its eventual transformation into Fun City.
Four years later, the Blackpool Pleasure Beach Fun House would be lost to fire.
